Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an integrative treatment approach to balance, acceptance and change strategies, is designed for persons suffering from anxiety, depression, anger, and chronic pain. ACT is based on the view that most psychological suffering results from a fusion of literal thinking and experiential avoidance. Through ACT, clients discover that coping and inflexible attempts to control anxiety/unwanted experiences only serve to compound their problem rather than uncover a solution. ACT teaches clients how to open up to their world within, connect with inner values, and carry their history forward into a more vital and valued life. In this Master class based on ACT's core features, practice experiential exercises (acceptance, mindfulness, defusion), values-guided behavioral activation, and through demonstrations/ role-playing, come away with take-home tools to put ACT into your treatment program.
