Session #: 787-016
Presenter(s): Robert Scaer Session Length: 6:00 hr. Event: NICABM 2007 Annual Conference Date: December 3-9, 2007
Trauma is an experience that permanently changes the structure of the brain, the perception of the mind, and the function of the body. Trauma occurs when helplessness leads to the freeze/dissociation response and the freeze discharge doesn't occur, thereby, imprinting the experiences of trauma on the brain. Discover beyond current trauma theory how the brain works in trauma, and how that phenomenon explains trauma's symptoms and behaviors. In this session, we'll explore dissociation and trauma's symptom complex, reframe the myriad of trauma symptoms, identify physical manifestations and diseases that reflect trauma's mind/brain/body continuum, and finally unify all this in a model of essential ingredients to promote the healing process.
