Participants in this session will have the opportunity to explore and experience the power of using common misconceptions to challenge students and deepen their mathematics understanding. We know that "slower and louder" and an emphasis on reteaching does not work. The presenter and participants will look at the approach of using misconceptions to improve students' learning and then consider the implications for initial instruction in the classroom and the structuring of safety nets for struggling students.
