Valuing the whole child requires seeing students as individuals and teaching them in response to their particular needs. Schools often function as though students are essentially alike. Moving from teaching "all children" to teaching "each child" is as difficult as it is necessary in contemporary education. Using Fiddler on the Roof as a metaphor for change, this session will explore what it would take to "keep our balance" in the precariously busy world of the classroom while learning to respond to the students we teach. The session will draw on experiences of an elementary school and a high school that successfully negotiated such change.
