Session #: 308-2209
Presenter(s): Mamie Crocket; LaVerne Gentry Session Length: 2 hr. Event: 2008 ASCD Annual Conference Date: March 15-17, 2008
Dyslexic students with learning differences feel alone carrying the burden of not knowing how to learn and not having the needed support to address those dyslexic learning differences. Parents, teachers, and administrators have expressed greater concern for students who have previously been placed in corners, segregated behind screens, ridiculed in front of the class and at home, or simply ignored because they could not read, write, or spell. This session will identify common characteristics of dyslexia and demonstrate ways to modify instruction, enhance self-esteem, and build on the strengths of dyslexic students through hands-on activities and helpful handouts.
