Is there a link between sleep deprivation and weight regulation? Can insulin resistance and inflammation affect the maintenance of your optimal weight? How does stress affect weight control? Dr Wolfe will present cutting-edge research that explores these topics including some groundbreaking research on how sleep deprivation increases levels of a hunger hormone ghrelin (triggers appetite in humans and was found at higher levels in those who regularly under-slept), and decreases levels of a satiety hormone leptin, (lets the body know when it is full and was found at much lower levels in sleep-deprived individuals). With nearly 70 percent of Americans overweight or obese, these findings could lead to a new direction for weight management.
