This interactive workshop provides the skills to transform those difficult moments in which clients catch clinicians "off-guard" with angry comments or provocative personal questions. These situations offer an opportunity which can strengthen the client-therapist alliance. Concepts such as sliding down the oppositional continuum, natural resolution, pulling resistance, strategic empathy and counterprojection are illustrated through instruction and role-playing. This workshop not only provides principles and theory, but specific examples of techniques and wording that provide healers, whether in the fields of mental health or medicine, practical tools for spotting and transforming these moments in a positive manner.
