An engaged community is essential to closing the achievement gap. This session's presenter will share lessons learned during his tenure as president of the National Urban League, including ways to mobilize the community and inspire academic achievement. Using real-life examples, he will describe how educators have enlisted parents, businesses, community partners, and the media to motivate students. Participants will learn how to use honor societies, parades, and rallies to fire students' enthusiasm for learning.
