Understanding that purpose comes before passion, participants in this session will discuss how belief leads behavior in high-performing urban classrooms. The presenter will describe the formation of a coalition in Milwaukee that provides selected urban teaching candidates an immersion experience in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the United States. Also under discussion will be a next-steps program strategically increasing the number of minority students who are successful in the transition from K—12 education into college.
