Teachers in schools in the United Arab Emirates struggle with teaching reading, implementation of effective reading strategies, and assessment. This session will report on a systematic evaluation of current reading techniques used in two government schools and identify specific professional development needs of the teachers. A professional learning program that is site-based, coconstructed, and collaborative in nature and that emphasizes action research is the professional learning approach.
