This session will describe the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART), a school featured in the May 2008 issue of Educational Leadership. CART, a California school for 11th and 12th graders, combines relevant, career-focused education with college-preparatory, standards-based academic rigor. Successes include increased attendance, grade point averages, and percentages of students going on to postsecondary programs. CART reaches a socioeconomically diverse population of students who have not been successful in the traditional classroom environment.
